Chickerell

Chickerell

Corylus successfully managed the application process for the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) which stores up to 49MW of energy located near Chickerel, Dorset. This project will store up to 50MW of energy and will enhance the resilience of the energy grid during it’s operation.

Project Highlights:
• Location: Land north of Eweleaze Spinney, Chickerell, DT4 9RZ
• Capacity: 50MW
• Environmental Impacts: Will support the increasingly urgent need for renewable energy to contribute to the decarbonisation of the country’s electrical system. As renewable energy is variable with wind or sun, electrical storage technologies like this system is required to bridge the gaps between supply and demand.

Our contribution:
• Our planning team led the project from initial concept through to successful implementation. We coordinated closely with external consultants, prepared all necessary planning documentation, and managed the submission of the planning application. Throughout the process, we actively participated in meetings and calls with the Local Planning Authority, ensuring our client was fully supported and that all queries and comments were addressed promptly and thoroughly.
• Our Landscape Architect team drafted the Landscape Visual Impact Assessment and produced the supporting drawings which were approved by the Local Planning Authority.
• Our Senior team, Chris and Phillip, attended and spoke at the planning committee meetings which approved the application 31st March 2025.
