Corylus

Andrew is co-founder of Corylus Planning and Environmental Ltd. He is a Chartered Landscape Architect with a first degree and a post graduate diploma in Landscape Architecture, and over 25 years’ experience working within the landscape profession.

Role

Andrew manages the landscape design function within the practice. He also takes a lead role in practice management and administration.

Landscape masterplanning, Planning Inquiries, landscape and visual assessment, detailed design and construction.

Before Corylus

Prior to establishing Corylus, Andrew was Principal Landscape Architect with Hanson Aggregates, managing the Landscape Architecture and Ecology function for the company’s southern region. He led a team of professional staff with responsibility for the co-ordination and resourcing of a diverse portfolio of mineral development and restoration projects. At Hanson, Andrew gained significant experience in quarry design and restoration, environmental impact assessment, project management, specification writing and contract administration (including large scale earthmoving and landscape rehabilitation contracts).

Julia has a first Degree in Environmental Sciences, a Masters Degree in Landscape Design and is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute.

Role

Julia's role covers both landscape and planning. She takes a holistic approach to environmental and landscape work and is particularly interested in sustainability issues.

Project managing complex planning applications and co-ordinating the input of multidisciplinary teams throughout the EIA process; Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment; landscape planning.

Before Corylus

Julia acquired varied experience prior to joining Corylus, working as a Landscape Architect within the Minerals Industry and Local Government and as a Project Manager with WRAP; an innovative company promoting sustainable resource use.

Gavin has a first degree in Geography and Masters degrees in Town and Country Planning, and Environmental Policy and Management. He is a chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Role

Gavin’s main role is to provide planning advice to clients and to submit planning applications and engage with Local Authorities and statutory consultees to ensure a successful planning process. He also deals with some of the ecological aspects of planning applications.

Expertise

Gavin has expertise in minerals and waste planning, and also planning for schools and other community facilities. He also has experience in understanding the ecological aspects of the planning process and assessing travel plans and sustainable travel initiatives.

Before Corylus

Prior to Corylus, Gavin was employed in various roles with Gloucestershire County Council, and finally became the Development Processes Manager. In this role he was the manager of the team of planning staff who had responsibilities for processing ‘County Matter’ and ‘Regulation 3’ planning applications, carrying out the monitoring and enforcement service, and undertaking the Council’s minerals and waste forward planning process.

Phillip has a first degree in Environmental Sciences and is qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. He has over 25 years experience working within the minerals industry, local government and private practice.

Phillip founded Corylus Planning & Environmental Ltd in the Autumn of 2005.

Role

Phillip is involved with the provision of planning and land management services for a mixed portfolio of project work, including mineral and waste development, residential, leisure and renewable energy schemes. He enjoys meeting and engaging with Clients, Land Owners, Planning Officers and Statutory Consultees.

Expertise

Phillip has considerable expertise in Planning and Estate Management and has regularly given evidence at Planning Inquiries, High Court Actions and Agricultural Arbitrations.

Before Corylus

Prior to Corylus, Phillip was the Natural Resources Manager for the South Region of Hanson Aggregates where he led a team of professionals whose skills included geology, landscape, forestry, land survey, ecology and surveying. The team were responsible for the management of all of Hanson’s property assets in the South West of England and South Wales. The work included the submission of planning applications and Environmental Statements for mineral applications. The department was also involved in the company’s waste disposal operations including the procurement of planning permission and waste permits.

James joined Corylus Planning & Environmental Ltd in September 2007 and is currently studying for chartered membership of the Landscape Institute. He has a first degree and post graduate diploma in Landscape Architecture as well as an academic background in horticulture, design and fine art.

Role

James takes a lead role in landscape design as well as managing the drawing office output and office systems. He has worked on a wide portfolio of projects from prestigious leisure and residential developments through to small scale biodiversity enhancement schemes.

Expertise

James has significant experience in landscape design, site assessment, computer graphics and facilitating the processes involved in gaining successful planning permissions.

In previous employment James worked for a practice that acted as a framework consultant for the Environment Agency.

Anne is a very effective ‘people manager’ and with a keen attention to detail, she keeps the show on the road.

Before Corylus

Anne was trained as a secretary sometime in the last century in Cambridge and has worked as a PA in various companies ranging from Elizabeth Arden to the Anglo-Irish Agency who sold racehorses in Bond Street in London. She has also worked as personal PA to a sculptor and an architect. She was an Army wife and spent many years travelling the globe to postings in Brunei, Malaysia and Hong Kong and moved house 16 times in 15 years until finally settling in Yanworth and thus fitting the “green” credentials of the company by walking to work in under 4 minutes.
